On 29 November 2025, Lady Liberty Hong Kong co-presented a public symposium in Kariya, Aichi, organised by Jasmine Assembly — examining how Hong Kong's transformation under the National Security Law unfolded, and what it may signal for Japan and the broader region.
The panel discussion format traced the arc from the 1997 handover and the inherent contradictions of "One Country, Two Systems," through the mass protests of 2019, to the passage of the National Security Law in 2020 and the subsequent rapid dismantling of civil society in Hong Kong. The discussion then turned to what these events suggest about the direction of Xi Jinping's government and how Japan should understand and respond to them.
The symposium was open to the general public and drew participants from across Aichi Prefecture.
