On 31 May 2025, Lady Liberty Hong Kong co-presented a panel discussion in Saitama examining the human rights situations in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, and what they suggest about the direction of Xi Jinping's government and its implications for Japan.
The event was organised by the Committee for China/North Korea Human Rights Issues, Saitama — a group established in 2022 to raise public awareness in Japan about human rights abuses across East Asia, including Xinjiang, Tibet, Southern Mongolia, Hong Kong, and North Korea, through exhibitions and public lectures.
Speakers
Tanaka Saut (Vice Chairman, Japan Uyghur Association) presented on the forced internment of Uyghurs, the suppression of minority-language education and religious practice, and the use of forced repatriation against Uyghur activists abroad.
Alric Lee (Representative Director, Lady Liberty Hong Kong) presented on the trajectory of the Hong Kong democracy movement, the implementation of the National Security Law, and the current conditions in Hong Kong under Chinese sovereignty.
Noji Naomi (Representative, Jasmine Assembly) moderated the session.
