On 22 November 2024, Lady Liberty Hong Kong protested outside Josui Kaikan, where the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) were hosting an investment promotion event targeting Japan's business community.

While Hong Kong authorities continue to court foreign investment, 45 pro-democracy figures have been sentenced to years in prison under the National Security Law — and ordinary citizens live in fear of arbitrary arrest. Apple Daily, which held tens of millions of dollars in assets, was shut down overnight after being deemed a "national security" threat, with all its assets seized by the government.

Protesters held placards naming imprisoned figures and their sentences, including Benny Tai (10 years), Gwyneth Ho (7 years), Lester Shum (6 years 9 months), and Joshua Wong (4 years 8 months). They carried banners reading "Release Political Prisoners" in Chinese and English.

Rational companies cannot continue doing business in a Hong Kong where the rule of law no longer exists. To do so risks complicity in the CCP's ongoing imprisonment of the city's people.
