Description
"上善若水" (calligraphy) is a quote from ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, roughly meaning "the greatest virtue adopts the characteristics of water, in which you benefit flows to many but humbly take no credit for the good deeds you have done". Hong Kong Kungfu master Bruce Lee's "Be Water" philosophy is also found resonating with this analogy.
Since 2019, "Be Water" has been deeply applied to the everyday practices of Hongkongers in social hardship. It has become a vision, and a mission, of many now relocated across the globe.
Self-exiled as a former faculty researched on Hong Kong's Social Activism, I sought remedies from Food Styling and Photography studies as part of my lifeboat scheme fulfilment. Constantly remembering my days of tea-and-soup-making for my beloved students as they returned safe from protests, I find strength to survive from our connected souls in times of displacement.
