December 24th, 2024 Lady Liberty Hong Kong strongly condemns the Hong Kong government’s latest decision to issue arrest warrants and offer a HK$1 million bounty for six more individuals—Tony Chung, Carmen Lau, Chung Kim-wah, Chloe Cheung, Joseph Tay, and Victor Ho—under the National Security Law. This action not only intensifies the government’s relentless crackdown on freedom of expression, but also demonstrates the arbitrary extension and application of both the National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance (Article 23). We reckon that the Hong Kong government intends to institutionalize and systematize cross-border repression under the guise of legal measures.

We are further alarmed by the recent revocation of HKSAR passports for multiple overseas activists, a draconian measure that heightens the climate of fear and extends the reach of the government’s repressive tactics. These steps collectively showcase an authoritarian agenda aimed at silencing Hongkongers worldwide.

“An attack on overseas Hong Kong advocates is an attack on the entire diaspora Hong Kong community,” said Alric Lee, Executive Director of Lady Liberty Hong Kong. “We will respond by strengthening our global network and exposing the Hong Kong government’s falsehoods to the international community.”

Lady Liberty Hong Kong stands in unwavering solidarity with the six newly targeted activists, as well as those who have had their passports revoked. We pledge to offer any support necessary—be it residence assistance, advocacy, or material aid—to ensure that their voices, and the broader fight for democracy in Hong Kong, are not suppressed.

We call upon the international community to recognize that the “One Country, Two Systems” framework has been effectively dismantled by the Chinese Communist Party, and to take action to support both exiled Hong Kong advocates and the global Hong Kong diaspora so our collective voices continue to be heard on the world stage. We further urge all nations to condemn these unjust measures, uphold the fundamental liberties Hongkongers cherish, and remain vigilant against the ongoing expansion of authoritarian power beyond Hong Kong’s borders.

Lady Liberty Hong Kong reaffirms its steadfast commitment to freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, and will continue to work tirelessly alongside all who stand on the front lines of this struggle.
