Toronto Rally Remembering Tiananmen Square

Toronto Association for Democracy in China

On May 28, 2023, a significant symbol, the Lady Liberty HK, marked its presence at the Toronto rally outside the Chinese Consulate, emphasizing the unity between the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and Hong Kong's 2019 movement.

Parkie, a Hongkonger from Vancouver, brought the 3D-printed statue, intending it to symbolize both pro-democracy movements. "Seeing Hong Kong in 2019 was reminiscent of Tiananmen. They both signify the sacrifice of our youth," Parkie reflected. He plans to feature Lady Liberty HK again at the Tiananmen memorial event on June 4.

The Toronto Association for Democracy in China highlighted that the usual venue for the Tiananmen memorial is under construction. This year's event will be at Richmond Square, North York, hoping to continue the spirit of the Victoria Park candlelight vigil in Toronto with Lady Liberty HK as a beacon of hope.
