The inaugural Hong Kong Liberty Art Prize, themed Glory to…, was held in protest of the Hong Kong government's ban on "Glory to Hong Kong" — the anthem that defined the 2019 protests and continues to represent the aspirations of Hongkongers worldwide. Lady Liberty Hong Kong organised the prize in 2023; the winning works then began a global tour, with Taipei as the first stop.
The exhibition ran for ten days at the basement of Chi-Nan (Jinan) Presbyterian Church in Taipei, hosted with the support of the church's Hong Kong fellowship. In addition to the prize-winning entries, the exhibition featured works by Hong Kong artists who have relocated or found asylum in Taiwan. Over 1,100 people visited across the ten days.
Taiwan and Japan, as the frontline neighbours of an increasingly assertive China, have become key spaces for the Hong Kong diaspora to sustain its creative resistance. The Taipei exhibition — timed to coincide with World Human Rights Day on 10 December — brought together Lady Liberty Hong Kong, Flow HK, and the Japan Hong Kong Democracy Alliance to connect the pro-freedom communities of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan through art.
