Corona Muralis of Hongkong

The Corona Muralis of Hongkong is a 3D digital model, designed to be a ceremonial gilt flag finial, used on a flagpole top. Its design integrated several elements from the Coat of arms of Hong Kong and the Armorial Bearings of the Urban Council of Hong Kong.

The shape of mural crown (Latin: corona muralis) is widely used in heraldry for representing a city-state; it also acknowledges the battle for Hong Kong in 1941, and later. The green grain (嘉禾) surmounting it is an indication of the city's geographical and cultural context. At bottom, a blue and white wreath (纜繩), symbolises Hong Kong as coastal port with a rich maritime history. At top, the pearl held by a little lion indicates the glory and spirit of the city, through recalling a romanticised phrase – "Pearl of the Orient".
