See You There

"Young people, you've been brainwashed"—these words were heard constantly during the social movement, as though being young meant everything you did was wrong.

In this work, I want to use a young girl to express the spirit of bravery, courage, and unyielding determination. From her gaze you can see stubbornness, a trace of anger, and a glimmer of hope.

Even weighed down by difficulties and covered in wounds, she continues moving forward. In fact, she is turning to face the path ahead and asking the others: Are you coming with me? Her right hand holds a bauhinia flower and an umbrella, expressing her wish to protect Hong Kong; her left hand grips Winnie the Pooh, showing she is already prepared to confront this evil regime.

Even in an environment that seems chaotic and murky, light persists.

In the darkness, you will see the characters for "hope"—expressing that even in darkness, hope can be found. As long as we persist, there will be hope.

I also painted on construction timber, deliberately damaging the edges. Hongkongers are like pieces of timber—put together, they make Hong Kong. But we have been forced apart, scattered. May the day come when we can be pieced back together like a puzzle.
