Theme: Glory To...

1st Hong Kong Liberty Art Prize

1st Hong Kong Liberty Art Prize

Lady Liberty Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Japan Hong Kong Democracy Alliance, launched the inaugural Hong Kong Liberty Art Prize in 2023 — an open call for creative works by Hongkongers and supporters worldwide, using art as a platform to express perspectives on Hong Kong's prevailing circumstances and broadcast voices that official channels seek to silence.

The theme "Glory To..." references the protest anthem Glory to Hong Kong and its original lyric "Glory be to thee, Hong Kong" — a phrase carrying hope for the future and the aspiration that Hong Kong might return to being a city of honour. Four years after the anti-extradition movement, with civil society and the rule of law severely curtailed, this edition asked: what does "Glory To..." mean to you, in the mist, as each person carries their own revolution forward?

The competition accepted works across five categories: 2D work, 3D work, photography, video and multimedia, and creative literature. Five shortlisted works per category were selected by the jury; the three entries receiving the most public votes across all categories were named First, Second, and Third Place overall.

Submission period: July 5 – September 5, 2023
Public voting: September 15 – 25, 2023
